The Textile Blog Reorganised and Updated

Just a short note to draw your attention to The Textile Blog tabs that are immediately above you.

All are linked to individual pages with specific information that can only be found on those pages. In the last week or so I have edited and updated most of them. Therefore, it might be interesting to run through the pages one by one as a means of explanation.

Home This is the traditional home of The Textile Blog, the page where all The Textile Blog articles will appear as and when they are written, along with the Further reading links list of associated book links to Amazon.com.

Headlines This particular page is a brand new feature of The Textile Blog. Those familiar with the facebook, twitter and google+ aspects of The Textile Blog will know that many news articles, videos, exhibitions and various blog and web articles are featured which deal with aspects of textiles and beyond. They are meant as inspirational source material and as interesting creative insights. The Headlines page therefore, works on the same principle and is therefore a constantly updated source of links and videos to safe sights and articles which are meant to be inspirational and intriguing.

Exhibitions Although not a new page, the Exhibitions page has been radically edited and altered. All exhibitions are now listed chronologically by the month in which they close, running from the present month. Each exhibition has a title which is a link to the exhibition website. Each entry also has a featured illustration, location and dates for opening and closing of each exhibition. The Textile Blog is more than happy to extend this list with any suggestions of exhibitions no matter how small or large.

Image Library This page will now take you directly to The Textile Blog image library featured on flickr. There you will find imagery under the headings Printed and Woven Design, Carpet and Rug Design, Tapestry Design, Embroidery Design, Lace Design, Wallpaper Design, Decoration and Ornament, Tile and Mosaic Design, Stained Glass Design, Book and Manuscript Design, Graphic Art and Illustration, Architectural Design. All of these categories are also split either into centuries, or from 1800-1919, into decades. New imagery is constantly added. New categories that are soon to follow will include Interior Design, Costume Design, Fine Art and Sculpture.

Video Library This is a relatively new feature of The Textile Blog. This page will take you directly to the dedicated Textile Blog channel at youtube. There you will find videos under the categories Printed and Woven Design, Carpet and Rug Design, Tapestry Design, Embroidery Design, Lace Design, Wallpaper Design, Decoration and Ornament, Tile and Mosaic Design, Stained Glass Design, Book and Manuscript Design, Costume Design, Designers, Fine Art, Architectural Design. As with the Image Library these videos are meant to be both inspirational and educational. New videos are being added every week.

Ebooks This is a long term project of The Textile Blog. These books will significantly expand on some of the issues covered by The Textile Blog, for which the blog can only ever touch upon. The first book Islamic Decoration and Ornament as seen by Owen Jones explores in detail the chapters dealing with Islamic design in Owen Jones 1856 The Grammar of Ornament and their effect on British decoration and pattern work during the mid-nineteenth century. The next title Nature and Surface Pattern Reform will deal specifically with issues surrounding the Design Reform movement of the mid-nineteenth century and the rise of the Arts & Crafts movement. The role nature played in textile and wallpaper design during this period will be central to the book. Future titles will deal with aspects such as ecclesiastical embroidery, the relationship between British and Indian textiles, medieval decoration and its influence on the nineteenth century and more.

Designer Index Although this page is not new, it has been thoroughly reedited. This page deals specifically with all designers that have been featured on The Textile Blog. All are now listed alphabetically. Many have portrait illustrations of the designer, along with their full name, nationality, birth and death dates and with wikipedia links where possible. Each designer also has a list of written articles that are also links, so that each link will take you to that specific article on The Textile Blog Home page. Every time that a new article appears on The Textile Blog, this page will be updated.

Subject Index This page gives a full list of articles from The Textile Blog under subject headings. These are as follows Printed and Woven Design, Rug and Carpet Design, Tapestry Design, Embroidery Design, Lace Design, Wallpaper Design, Decoration and Ornament, Tile and Mosaic Design, Stained Glass Design, Book and Manuscript Design, Basketry Design, Contemporary Textile Artists, Miscellaneous. Each link will take you directly to the specific article on The Textile Blog Home page. As with the Designer Index every time that a new article appears on The Textile Blog, this page will be updated.

Upcoming This gives a list of titles of articles along with an illustration and short explanation, which will be featured on The Textile Blog in the coming weeks. All are in chronological order with the top title being featured next.

Links This is a list of links to various websites that are connected to textile design, decoration and craft. The list is in the process of being lengthened and will therefore will feature many more sites that are both educational and informative. Each title is a link to each specific site.

It is hoped that this reorganization and expansion of The Textile Blog will be seen as an improvement and will prove beneficial for anyone interested in the history and development of design, decoration and craft. The blog will see changes and upgrades in the future, whenever possible, but only if it adds to The Textile Blog experience.
As updates and additions are ongoing, please feel free to contact me if there appear to be any broken links or non-functioning sections of the blog.
