Nico in Soho

Nothing to wear and need to be glam? The usual same old same old from the high street chain stores just don't cut it anymore. Well you are in luck! In the heart of Soho is Nico Didonna, who creates exquisite conceptual clothes, refined and beautifuly tailored.
Yesterday a friend was picking up a couple of new outfits from Nico's latest collection. Perfectly tailored, one dress could even be worn eight different ways. Absolutely stunning! Even better, the price tag wasn't!!
Why would you ever go back to the high street same old.

Drury Lane Gardens

By the late 19th century central burial grounds in London were full to overflowing and so it became necessary to move them out into the country. Sir Edwin Chadwick a sanitary reformer, wrote a report in 1843, that it would be in the public interest to keep the old burial grounds open as public green spaces. It took until 1877 for an act of parliament to be passed to see his recommendations eventuate. Drury Garden in Soho is one of the five public gardens that were created.

Year of the Dragon

The celebrations for the Chinese New Year have already begun in Soho London. On the eve of the year of the dragon there were the usual dragon dances as seen at most Chinese festivals, there are all manner of dragons on sale as well. I was rather taken with this gold dragon hat the man above is wearing.
This weekend there will be a big parade in Chinatown and lots of festivities in Trafalgar Square.

Pretty Pumps

If you are keeping up to date with the latest trends you will know that everyone who is anyone is wearing ballerina pumps, Pippa, VB, Kate at home in front of the telly. So I thought I'd show you these that I spied yesterday in Pretty Ballerinas while wandering around Soho.

Roof Tops

I'm constantly trying to find roof top views of London. The city looks so different either looking up or looking down from somewhere high. This view looking over the roof tops of Soho is taken from Central St Martins University. The campus is to be relocated to new premises in Kings Cross for the next academic year.
Looks like developers will turn the current building into apartments, offices and luxury hotel.

Dozens of puppets hang from the ceiling in an Indian restaurant in Soho. So bright and cheerful.

Soho Square

Soho Square built in 1670, originally called King's Square for Charles II (yes that statue is him), has always been a very fashionable address. Whether real or in literature. (It was the address of Lucie and Dr Mannette in Dicken's Tale of Two Cities.)

Currently the address of prestigious media and sports organisations, such as 20th century Fox

and Bloomsbury Publishing.

Things may change radically around here once the new Cross Rail is completed sometime in 2016.

Beating the traffic blues

Getting around Soho and the Westend can be difficult by car. Personally? I walk. An alternative option is to take a rickshaw. Ok slightly more expensive than a black cab, but hey loads of fun. Think of it as supporting the mostly foreign students trying to make their way in one of the most expensive cities in the world.
