January 2012 - Best of 2011

Traditionally on the first day of the New Year those of us at CDP post a copy of our best image of the previous year. I don't know that this was my best but it was one that you all seemed to like. I'll probably be looking a bit like this after my Bollywood dancing last night - pink that is! I have preposted this as I have no intention of getting up early today. Besides I'm probably still out on the town kicking up my heels, and welcoming in 2012.

Skywatch Friday - Thames

Although London has the reputation of the city of grey skies, it isn't actually constantly grey. Sure there are grey days but equally there are blue skies, cloudy skies and magical sunsets. Throw in a river that rises and falls 8 metres with the tide, with history of battles and bridges, intrigue and murder and you start to fell the magic of London.

Remember to visit the other skies around the globe.

A view from Blackfriars

Sunset, sunrise, wet days, fine days, cloudy days and ordinary days, the view over the Thames always has a little magic in it. Wouldn't you agree?

Looking Back

A stranger standing on the millennium bridge taking in the view up the Thames (and contemplating the history of it all too, no doubt) seemed like a good place to reflect on the end of a decade. This evening we will welcome in the new year. I wish all of you, your friends, families, and important beings a very Happy New Year!

Skywatch Friday - Swan Lake

Friday already and skies are needed. Well after yesterday I figured you might like swan lake to go with the setting sun. OK so I'm not great at this stuff. I'll be back to normal next week. Whatever that is. Have a good weekend. I'm just hoping for blue skies.

Make sure you visit the beautiful skies around the world.

Skywatch Friday - The Calm Before the Storm

This picture was taken close to the Excel centre a couple of days before the G20 summit. I waited for the sunset in the Caribbean Scene, a local restaurant worth the visit
with the added magic of a view like this.
During the summit locals had to contend with having to park their cars blocks away. Proving they lived in the area by carrying several forms of identity (one was not enough). Local restaurants and businesses were ordered to close. Although paid a fee as compensation, they initially thought the summit would be a boost in income.

Skywatch Friday - Sunset over the Thames

Sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine in hand watching the sun go down over the Thames. Doesn't come much better than this. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Friday is when you visit skywatchers from around the world
