Judging from the screams this ride is one of the best.

Helter Skelter

"When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide
Where I stop and I turn and I go for a ride
Until I get to the bottom and I see you again"

So begins the Beatles song Helter Skelter, inspired by the Victorian ride. These rides were very popular at seaside towns in Victorian times. This one currently tucked away on Southbank for the summer wasn't the hit it might once have been.

Steam Yachts

A fun fair with a difference. The Carters Steam Fair is a step back to the 1920's. Beautifully restored rides and attractions. Carters collect these wonderful items from a bygone era spending months restoring them. They then travel around London for seven months of the year moving around in vintage caravans and vehicles.

The rides are powered by steam engines adding to the magic. The carousal whizzes around with steam puffing from the central chimney complete with whistles and bells.
Side shows include cork firing rifles and a coconut shy
Make sure you catch the amazing wall of death, vintage motorcyclists performing stunts around a wooden wall.
Currently on at Ravenscourt Park until 18 April.

Horrible Histories

Last night I was invited to the London Dungeon for a glimpse of some of London's ghastly past. We were lead back through the horrors of the gallows, paid a visit to Sweeney Todd's barber shop and learned of his wife's culinary skills.
Henry VIII's deadliest daughter, Mary threatened to add us to the 300 she had burned for heresy.
The working girls lead us through Whitechapel where Jack the Ripper lurked behind every corner.
Finally we are lead to Newgate prison where we are hanged.
It is my ghost who delivers this to you today where thankfully I only have to contend with swine flu, politicians bird baths and taxes to pay bankers bonuses.

Survive the dungeon and they'll discount your visit to the London eye, Madam Tussuad's and the London Aquarium.

Fun Fair

Hotdogs, waffles, mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, rides, tacky presents to buy. It must be a Xmas Fair.
