Pop Bang

Artist Ian Cook unveiled his latest work at the showrooms of sponsor Chevrolet, who were promoting their new all electric car the Volt.

Ian has an unusual style of painting, he doesn't use paintbrushes.. It all began a few years ago when he was given a remote control car for his birthday. "Don't get paint on it" he was told. What a crazy thing to say to a boy. Instantly he thought wow what a great idea. Next thing we know cars are zooming all over his canvases.

His latest crazy idea was to create a piece in fluorescent paint. His sponsor Chevrolet were so keen on this idea they decided to film it. All this had to be done in pitch black.

The painting above is the outcome. It doesn't glow the same way on screen as in reality, but you get the idea.

Parrot on an Outing

The two blue parrots and their owner are a familiar sight around Mayfair, I introduced you to them here.
Yesterday they were having an outing in Berkley Square and were very reluctant to be photographed. They turned their heads away or their their backs toward me. Pecked my camera strap and yanked at my scarf. Any picture I took of the two of them appeared to only have one head.

Finally, "ok you have one second, make it quick".

Monopoly - Mayfair

Monopoly - Dark Blue Square £400.

Our final square on the board. Mayfair the most expensive space to land.

Mayfair was named after the May Fair that was held in the area until 1764. It was moved as the locals felt it lowered the tone of the neighbourhood. (No wonder Guy Ritchie is having difficulty getting an extension of hours for his Mayfair Pub).
Most of the development of the area took place in the 17th and 18th centuries the largest landowners being the Rothschild's, Dukes of Westminster and The Grosvenors.
The United States has its huge embassy in Grosvenor Square (Mayfair) however they are moving to a less prestigious address for "security reasons".
