A Celebration of Pugin's 200th Anniversary

Today is Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin's birthday. It is also exactly two hundred years since his birth and in way of celebration of one of England's finest and most ambitious of designers and decorators, as well as arguably the main instigator of the Victorian Gothic Revival, it seems only fitting to recognise his talent with some pattern work and very little else.

However, you might be interested in some of the events celebrating Pugin's birth which can be found in both Britain and Ireland as well as in Australia. These can be found, with a wealth of other information, at the Pugin Society website. A list of Pugin themed books available from Amazon are also featured as per usual, at the end of the post.

The Textile Blog's own ebook Pugin the Pattern Designer, is also available, all of the decorative pattern work examples illustrating this article can be found within the book as well as many others.

Enjoy the sheer energy and dynamism of Pugin's pattern work which was very much a reflection of his own personality which was equally energetic and dynamic. Happy Birthday A W N!!!
